  1. By the way. This endeavor is crazy, that is why it’s going to work. 🙂

  2. Great job, Sarah! I can imagine that you must be thrilled that you did 2 in 1 day!
I worked out for 30 min while watching the Super Bowl. Loved the game, go Steelers!
Regarding measuring, I threw my scale out years ago and I do much better without. It was giving me too much grief and headache seeing myself going up and down the scale. Now I think that I am just exactly right every day …
    Off to a new week,

  7. This was a day of no fun :(. Maybe it’s Mercury coming out of Retrograde, who knows. I did 30 min. abs of steel, growling! Really felt like doing nothin’.
This was the first day that I thought ‘a whole year?? Holy cow!’

  8. Karin, thank you for sharing your comment. Great job on pushing through on a day you really did not feel like it. These are “Success Making Moments” because successful people muscle through even when they’d rather not.

  9. OK, it’s 11:00 at night and it’s now or never. This is going to be tough getting into new habits! But I don’t want to start over already, so I’m going to do 20 minutes of yoga stretching. Will probably feel great anyway!
Keep on keeping on everybody… you’re my inspiration for this.

  10. Ok, I mailed in my permit request to hike to the summit of Mt. Whitney. I chose many alternative dates between the end of July and beginning of September in order to have the best chance of my permit request being awarded during the “lottery quota” which happens on February 15th. I believe I get notified by the end of February so, you’ve got a few weeks to consider if you want to join me on this very physically and spiritually rewarding journey to the top of the world this year. If you’d like to do this, don’t worry (yet) about preparing yourself, I will help you…more on this later.

  11. My awesome coach, Mattison Grey, inspired me last year to set a goal to ride my bike a total of 3,000 miles. Once I set that goal, instead of slacking in the off-season, I kept on riding and ended at 3,200. This year’s goal WAS 4,000 until I reported my mileage for the weekend. Mattison asked “why not 5,000?”. Why not indeed! So I’m going for it!! I will report my results in miwk/miytd/migoal. So far, 110/321/5000.

Sarah had a great suggestion that for my “rest days” which is yoga/stretching. This way I can meet my 365/365 goal.

And, I invited a friend to join our group, Melissa Williams. Melissa is training for her first triathalon and we’re doing it as a relay. She invited me to be her cyclist … she’s the runner … and her cousin is the swimmer.

  14. Welcome to everyone. I hope that is is a great venue for you to get started exercising. I love the accountability, even for me who advocates good health for a living. This is a tough time for me right now as my sister is in the hosptial with stage 4 lung cancer. I am taking a walk later today with my business coach, Susan Kildahl, for some self care.

  16. Thanks to this group for keeping me accountable. I just did day 9 for me, and I have to say it is the first time in a very long time I am exercising everyday. Right now, I am doing a 30 minute workout each day, alternating pilates, yoga and Jillian from The Biggest Loser. I hope to have the time to build into a longer workout, but at least I am up and moving at 6 am! Thanks!

  17. Just got back from a 3 mi walk! Kathi you are inspiring on the BIG miles goal! Sarah your Hula Hooping on Saturday inspired me. Go Karin and Mattison on pushing thru and just doing it. 9/365 YOU ALL are inspiring for me. GO GO GO Everyone!!!

  18. Very inspiring stuff!

Way to go everyone and welcome to the new folks.

I’m at day 14/365 and am amazed at the instant transformation that occurred when I said, “I’m in!” I instantly became a daily exerciser and 365 seems totally do-able. “I can easily do that” is my mindset.

Comment by Jonathan Manske | February 3, 2009

  19. I just walked/jogged/wogged/trundled with my fitness coach. I coached her while she encouraged me. I JOGGED! That is a sort of first…Jogging downhill is so much easier then uphill…

By the way, wogging is a bit fast then a walk and trundling is a bit faster then a wog…

I tend to beat myself up for getting out of breath. What is up with that????

Comment by Susan Kildahl | February 3, 2009

  20. As a young fella I used to run for about 1 hour every day. That’s been a long time ago. Anyway, I just went for a run (1st time in forever) and all in all it felt pretty good.

Max, our big goofy dog, actually was better behaved on a run than he is on a walk.

Comment by Jonathan Manske | February 3, 2009

  21. Day 1 (Sunday): Combined housework with exercise and went up and down the stairs so many times my legs were sore the next day.
Day 2: Did stretching at 11:00 pm and really “got” that I have to exercise earlier in the day!
Day 3 (today): Got on exercise bike that had sat idle for months and did 15 minutes plus cool down.
Am leaning toward establishing a regular time of day for exercise… do any of the rest of you find a schedule helpful?

Comment by Dee Meyer | February 3, 2009

  24. QUESTION: Am I over doing it?

Should I be sustaining a heart rate of 170 BPM during my cardio. Can I do sprints that take me up to 185 BPM then down again into the 165 to 170 range? I seem to be working much harder than anyone else, but I feel fine. No pain, no light-headedness, just huffing and puffing and sweating while drinking lots of water. BTW, I’ll be 40 in May if that makes any difference.

Comment by brian williams | February 3, 2009

  25. Thanks Brian for your encouragement yesterday, that felt really good! I had a few rough days but today I just went for it and exercised until my mood was up again. Totally exhausting yourself can help 🙂
I am amazed how everyone in this program is doing! You go, guys, what a kick! Welcome to the new people, I’ll make sure to get you on the participants list.

  26. Brian
I am no expert, but according to the current fitness trends there is nothing wrong with high intensity training. That is assuming that your Dr. says it’s OK. I routinely work at a high heart rate 170-185 and I am 40.

“The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating – in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life.”

(Attributed to Anne Morris, a customer from NYC.)

Whatever the source (I have heard this before in similar words) it explains how I feel about 365fitness.

One with a client for web cam training. this is so exciting for me to do! then also went fro a great walk with @susankildahl, my business coach. she walked, and even ran some. I’m so proud of her! I did a short side run. I felt really good to get my heart rate up, stretch the legs and run off some stress! Today I will need to walk, maybe to the grocery store.

  35. I started this challenge on 1/24 (I think) so I am on 12/365. I went to that week when Jonathan asked me to join and I had worked out for 3 days in a row before so yeah me!

This is the FIRST time in my life that I have made exercise a priority.

Today I will be going to the gym after 1:00 PM and will walk/jog and lift weights! I need to stay off the scale! I keep saying that but keep sneaking it in. No change.

  36. 3/365 2 miles on the exercise bike, and some walking on the treadmill to fill out the time until my dryer was done in the laundry room! :-> Excited that I might be able to fit in a walk later this afternoon. Good job, everybody. I am looking with admiration at the people who have over 10 days in. thanks for the inspiration, y’all!

  38. went for a relaxing walk with daughter Hannah and the escape artist dog Champ. He jumps the 6 foot fence, visits the neighbors. They even let him in the kitchen and return him when the play date is done. Gotta love a social dog. He keeps me moving.

Comment by Peggy Green | February 4, 2009

  39. Send Champ over to my house. I need a “rent a dog.” It’s kinda like grand kids. You enjoy them until you don’t, and then you send them home.

Another lovely walk plus using Heavyhands aerobics. Going well.

  40. Made it back from Crossfit, barely alive. It’s official – they ARE trying to kill people 18/365

I had a Feldenkrais Lesson on Monday from Marybeth, she is here playing with us, it was awesome, thanks MB you rock. If you are here in H-town highly recommended

Today tried out Massage Envy, all I have to say is, good thing it was only $39.

I have realized if I am going to make 365 I am going to have to take really good care of my body. Beginning Monday I am going to really clean up my nutrition.

If you want to join me on eating “clean” let me know

  42. Hi all, wow this is an amazing group, hard to keep up with the new participants joining!
Mattison, I started cleaning up on my nutrition also. With more exercising eating better just seems to come natural, loving it! I am drinking at least 10 glasses of water now and I cut out coffee, wine (!) and sugar. I am eating more fruits and veggies and muesli in the mornings. Open to suggestions.
I am at day 12/365 and feeling great.
Thanks, I am very grateful for being part of this team!
PS This is also spilling out to the family! My husband found an exercise buddy and now goes to the gym regularly and my daughter is jogging around the block 3x every day (she is training for a school race)

Comment by Dee Meyer | February 4, 2009

  44. Hi everyone,
Great progress — I love reading your posts! It’s energizing!

Due to a hectic work schedule, I’ve resorted to using the eliptical trainer two days in a row. I’m at 17/365. Tomorrow night I plan to ride my bike with my friend Margaret. I’ll be in Mattison’s Brilliance Bootcamp over the weekend (yeah!) so I’m getting my miles in Thu/Fri. And, I get to ride Mattison’s mountain bike on Saturday on the lunch break – FUN!

For those of you making changes in your diet, I found a website several years ago that really made a difference for me. It’s http://www.realage.com. I update the Real Age Test every year. I developed my vitamin regimen using this tool and cleaned up my diet. Give it a try. What’s your “real age?” I have the “Real Age Makeover” book if anyone wants to borrow it.

  45. Mattison…in on eating clean.
hulahooping (can barely call it that with a straight face), dancing around the house with MTV, and crunches. really didn’t want to today…and did it anyway. 11/365

Comment by Sarah Shah | February 5, 2009

  46. Please please can we all talk about eating better and nutrition?

I am working hard to eat “normally”. I won’t do good/bad. I have a horrid habit of not eating…Jonathan helped me get past my emotional overeating which got me into this puffy state. Now I have to conquer the not eating stage which keeps me puffy.

Peggy, my fitness coach, has me on Jen bars which are natural and protein shakes with fruit. Sometimes I can get those both in. Then other days, like last night, I ate a normal dinner after not really eating all day.

I was taking it light today but now am getting dressed for the gym! The total body soreness has gone away today. I kinda miss it! I am going to try to jog the short parts of the track. Another first….

  47. NEW PAGE
It seems we have hit a nerve talking about food. I happy for you all to discuss it here, but I’d like to have it as a separate discussion from 365 fitness. I think its important to not mix our metaphors, and while nutrition plays a role, for me the focus must remain on 365 fitness.

So, please use this page for all discussion of nutrition and food https://365fitclub.wordpress.com/food-and-nutrition/
and continue to log your exercise progress on this main page.

  49. Crossfit again today. Had to go tonight, cause I can’t go tomorrow or on the weekend. It was brutal as usual, made worse by doing two days in a row. Tomorrow I’m planning a nice easy bike ride, followed by a mani/pedi to get ready for the seminar I am leading all weekend. I’m on 19/365, that’s a major record for me.

    Comment by Mattison | February 5, 2009

  50. I worked out yetesrday for 45 minutes with weights. I feel my body getting better everyday. I then took extra time to stretch! I realy needed the relxing stretches.

Comment by Peggy Green | February 6, 2009

  51. 10/365 I am feeling stronger in every way. Today I will be dancing and dog walking perhaps at the same time, comic relief for the neighbors.
Mattison I think it is a great idea to reward yourself for all of your hard work with a Mani/Pedi! I am going to make a appointment for a mani/pedi too!

Comment by Dee Meyer | February 6, 2009

  52. 14/365 give or take a few….

I woke up yesterday and was finally less sore. So I went and worked out! I am now sore again…feels great!

Today my exercise is cleaning and running up and down stairs. I moved my office upstairs and go up and down all day long. I run up as much as I can. Then there is a birthday party at my house tonight so I am running around like mad straightening and cleaning and scrubbing.

Comment by Susan Kildahl | February 6, 2009

  53. I’m off to yoga right now, and that will mark 3/365 for me. Yesterday I really didn’t want to exercise, but I did a walk and after it was over I thought – that wasn’t such a big deal. Just do it!

  55. 17/365 Out of town company last night so I had a very busy day, cleaning, cooking and getting some work done. Didn’t get to exercise before dinner so last night before bed after a 3 course fondue dinner and many glasses of wine I did 200 jumping jacks. Not a huge workout and yet I did something.

Road my bike trainer for 1 1/2 hours this morning.

Comment by Jonathan Manske | February 6, 2009

  56. I wish I could have seen Jonathan doing alcohol influenced jumping jacks!

I just came in from 20 minutes on the mt. bike. I wish I could have done more but that is all I had time before because Brilliance Bootcamp starts this evening. The really cool thing is that in the past I would have just blown it off for times sake. There is no more blowing around here.
Oh and I am taking extra credit, I rode the last 10 minutes, into the wind carrying 12 bottles of non-alcoholic beer

Comment by Mattison Grey | February 6, 2009

  58. I have a lot of time to train! The event is not until August… Peggy is my fitness trainer and my friend and she will make sure I am safe.

If I don’t feel that I can do it then I won’t! I am sort of excited more then the terrified part!

  77. I’m on day 7, and finding a rhythm of exercise. Not finding the rhythm for writing here, however! SO– have walked and ridden the exercise bike at the workout center every day but Saturday. Doubled up on Sunday. I am gradually feeling my strength build up. 2 miles on the exercise bike is still a challenge for me, but I can do it. Did 2 miles this a.m., and will do 2 more before dinner. It seems just as easy for me to do 2 shorter sessions during the day, rather than carve out the time for 1 long session. Great to have the freedom to find what works for me.
