  1. Yesterday was day 30 for me. Quite an accomplishment if I do say so myself. I am quite sure that has never happened in my adult life. Thanks for being here, without all of you I might not make it. One month down 11 to go.

  2. I am starting over on day 1 today. At first I felt bad and wasn’t going to own up but I figure that I am thinking about this so much more. That there is no way I can expect perfection of myself. If working out daily had been a habit then I would not be so fluffy!

    So day 1!

  3. Congrats, Mattison for 30 days of exercise! You go, girl!
I have been doing 30 min exercises every day, swimming, abs, legs, butt (my favorite), arms. It’s really becoming a daily routine. I am on day 24/365.

  4. Wheee! I’m on the list! Thanks for including me!
Day 1 is today, with a nice walk. YAY. Enjoyment in movement is what it’s about for me. Doing something every day doesn’t have to be extreme. Extreme and undesired outcomes are likely to occur with the weekend warrior, un-mindful, occasional exerciser. I’m enjoying the opportunity to experience my body in a new way.
As the resident “professional awareness expert,” (now, everybody — be afraid! heehee) may I point out something to my fellow travelers? Read through the comments, and notice the implied attitudes expressed in the adjectives describing the self, and describing the workouts. Just notice. My point: You can get a good workout without feeling like you received a punishment that you deserved. It is possible to enjoy movement, in a truly pleasurable way. That’s what I’m exploring.
Here’s to a long string of “Day One”s. Right there with you, Susan!

  5. I just joined up today and I already did my body movement for today: day 1/365. I walked to the store and got some raw food for lunch. It was a great brisk walk. Glad to be a part of this with you all.

I’m with you, Mary Beth – it’s about enjoyment of movement.

Also, I registered for a 5k (my first one) when I got back from my walk. It’s in mid April. Glad it’s on my calendar.

  6. I think this is day 20. Another brisk walk with Beth. Used 4 lb Heavy Hands to up the output.

    Congratulations, Mattison.

  8. Susan asked me to share how what I have noticed after 31 days of exercise.

I feel good, better physically, a little bit fitter, my vitality is higher and my mind is quieter. It has been really fun playing the game, and having people doing it with me.

Like many people have said it is a great supportive environment to wake up every morning and just know that there will be some exercise today. No, if’s, ands, or buts.

My experience has been much like the Starbucks cup Rob posted”

“The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating – in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life.”

  9. Monday Feb 16 was a ‘make it or break it’ day for me. I was feeling discouraged and disgruntled. I had missed day 12 on Sunday and knew I had to do 2 sessions to stay on track.

I hemmed and hawed and whined throughout the day on Twitter, and Matti sent caring and gently motivating responses.

One thing I realized is that it was day 13 – and that’s about right on track with the timeframe that I usually quit fitness programs. Gung ho for 2 weeks and then slack off.

Late in the afternoon I saw a tweet from Matti that said that she was going out for her walk, even though she hates walking. That was the turning point for me. I thought “if she is doing it even though she hates it, I can too”

One thing I have realized about myself in relation to exercise is that somewhere along the line I got the idea that it is harder for me than for other people. It’s really good for me to know that other people find it hard – but they still DO IT.

Anyways, it didn’t kill me to do it (quite the contrary) and this morning I woke up happy to still be on track.

So that’s my story of how I got to day 14/365 today.

  10. Barbra
Welcome I think you’ll find many people you can relate to here at the blog. Everyone kinda has “their own thing” going on related to fitness and exercise, bu there are many common themes. It has really turned into a supportive environment for all of us

  11. I did crossfit today for day 32/365. I have fallen in love with crossfit, even though I hate it.

  12. I have been busy with a death in the family but have managed some time for myself by walking and meditating.
This is unsual for me because I usually enjoy the heart racing, need for speed kind of workouts. So now I’ve adjusted to meet my physical and mental needs and will soon be back into the challenging stuff. I am looking forward to meeting with friends on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s in Lone Tree/Highlands Ranch open space for fresh air.

  13. Even after 32 days I sometimes “forget” I am going to exercise. It’s weird. I am going out this afternoon for a bike ride if the rain holds off

  14. I am not getting the update notices..!

Also, I have NOT started over yet…My only excuse is that I have been working 7 am to 10 pm. Not a great excuse…

  15. If we miss one day and do two workouts the next day then I think I am counting that….

  16. I love that quote on commitment from the Starbucks cup…it is easier once we are committed.

And as Goethe says – “Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back– Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth that ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too.”

I too have had love/hate relationship with exercise too – and know how much better I feel afterwards.

Thank you all for being real and sharing your stories.

I like variety and have noticed that I am including other things in with the walking — dancing last week, a little Tae Bo, some stability ball toning. Interesting for sure!

I’m off for a walk… will love it afterwards! 23/365

  17. Upped the intensity yesterday (02/18). Did my version of “interval training.” I’ve been reading that such intervals of intensity make a positive difference. I also enjoyed the rain-washed sunny late afternoon.
